New Scientist Breaking News - Living camera uses bacteria to capture image

Have you read PREY by Michael Crichton??

New Scientist Breaking News - Living camera uses bacteria to capture image: "A dense bed of light-sensitive bacteria has been developed as a unique kind of photographic film. Although it takes 4 hours to take a picture and only works in red light, it also delivers extremely high resolution.

The “living camera” uses light to switch on genes in a genetically modified bacterium that then cause an image-recording chemical to darken. The bacteria are tiny, allowing the sensor to deliver a resolution of 100 megapixels per square inch."

Charleston conference 2005

Well I thought I may as well do a live blogpost from Charleston.

I am here for an Acquisitions conf.

Today I attended a product demo

The bacon was exceptional. Maybe a little too sweet.

The gift bag included bene(sp) wafers. What a nice treat.

The demo was good, if not uplifting.

Today I spent in the hostel trying to get some work done. I've only seen one roach so far, and it was small.

I slept good last night. There was no one in the room next to me and there was no traffic noise. unbelievable. Now if only I could lock my window.

I posted some pics on flickr

***

Boing Boing: eInk device without DRM: "his Chinese ebook reader is based on the same eInk technology as the Sony Librie -- it's an incredibly sharp, low-power-draw display that works well in direct sunlight as well as in dim conditions. MAKE: Blog: Applications for your USB drive / iPod

Make your own bootable USB drive, and there is a link to someone who has compiled some utilities to put on it.

MAKE: Blog: Applications for your USB drive / iPod: "Here's a great list of applications you can download and run off any USB drive or music player like the iPod. I usually keep my iPod nano filled with applications so I can use any system, but still have access to all the programs I need. It's also handy to have a toolset when you need to fix computers."

Google-It

I was looking at a post on the Shifted Librarian's site, and I saw that one of the options underneath her post was titled Google-It. Clicking on that I discovered that it puts the title of the post into google and does a search. I immediately started hacking my own template to do the same thing. So Voila..

Research Update: Bendable electronic paper includes image memory - 9/15/2005 - EDN - CA6255069

Wait... Did you just say no power?.... WOW.

Research Update: Bendable electronic paper includes image memory - 9/15/2005 - EDN - CA6255069: "Striving toward the long-sought ideal of the electronic equivalent to conventional paper, Fujitsu Ltd and Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd have demonstrated a film-based, bendable material that displays text and color images and consumes no power when displaying them. Fujitsu officials say that the power to change an image is so low that the weak RF energy in contactless IC cards can deliver that energy to the device."

Your Brain's Pattern

Structured and organized, you have a knack for thinking clearly.
You are very logical - and you don't let your thoughts get polluted with emotions.
And while your thoughts are pretty serious, they're anything from boring.
It's minds like yours that have built the great cities of the world!
